An investigation by the Elba Police Department over the weekend led to the arrest of an Elba man on multiple charges, including burglary and theft of property.
Elba Police Chief Freddy Hanchey said the department had received reports of suspicious activity at 475 Alabama Highway last week, and an initial and follow-up investigation led to the recovery of items reported stolen. He said officers were able to recover various tools and a 2005 GMC pickup truck that had been taken from this address.
Subsequently, Hanchey said Steven Alphoso Greer, age 32, of Elba, was arrested Saturday, March 18th. He was charged with burglary – third degree, criminal mischief – second degree, and theft of property – auto theft.
Greer was taken to the Coffee County Jail following his arrest.
Chief Hanchey had a request of citizens following this arrest, “If this individual has attempted to sale or has sold property to you, we ask that you contact us at the Elba Police Department [897-2555].”
As always, citizens are encouraged to be vigilant of their surroundings and to be sure and lock doors at all times. If someone notices suspicious activity or persons, contact local law enforcement immediately.
