Basin Baptist pastor honored for 50 Years in Ministry
Dr. Sam Self, pastor of Basin Baptist Church, Elba, Ala., began his walk in ministry on March 27, 1967. His church family at Basin honored him last Sunday, April 2, by celebrating his 50 Years in Ministry.
The special Sunday morning service included reflections from his past ministries, and thanksgiving for his current service at Basin Baptist Church. While he admits he never imagined he would one day be in Southeast Alabama, Bro. Sam has often said during his now five-plus years at Basin that he is “having the best time of his life.”
If last Sunday’s celebration is any indication, his church members feel the same way as hopes of another “50” were expressed throughout the day!
Dr. John Granger played a huge role in Self coming to Basin, and he spoke briefly during Sunday morning’s service. Granger noted the positive impact Self has had and continues to have at Basin simply in the growth the church has experienced over the past five years.
Bro. Sam brought to Basin the motto “Love Isn’t Love Until It’s Given Away” and Sunday’s service honoring him was a wonderful example that his church congregation believes that without a shadow of doubt.
A special lunch in his honor followed the service in the fellowship hall.
