Elba’s cheerleaders bring home multiple awards from UCA Camp

The Elba High School Varsity and Junior Varsity cheerleaders attended Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) camp last week [June 8 – 11] in Panama City Beach, Fla.
The Elba cheerleaders received the highest award of gold superior ribbons for every pre-competition evaluation in sideline, dance and cheer.  The Varsity and Junior Varsity squads competed with a variety of squads from Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Louisiana.
The Varsity squad had four cheerleaders named All-American cheerleader after participating in a tryout at camp. Lauren Haley, Alyssa Kyles, Sandrea Lindsey and Mone Martin received the honor.
The Varsity team also was named one of five “Superior” squads out of the 28 attending camp and received an invite to the Buffalo Wild Wings bowl.
After competing in the dance and cheer competitions, the Varsity team received a second place award in dance behind Bayside Academy from Daphne, Ala.
The Junior Varsity team also competed in cheer and dance and received first place in sideline performance and third place in dance performance. The JV team also had two girls named All-American cheerleader. The were La’Mya Anderson and May Morgan Lusk.
The Pin-It Forward Award was given to Elba’s JV captain May Morgan Lusk. A UCA staff member chose Lusk for this award because of her demonstration of leadership and spirit.
Elba mascot, Ivie Thomas [aka “Elbie”], was named All-American mascot and also was awarded a superior trophy. Thomas also received the Pin-It Forward Award from another camper.
Varsity captain, Alyssa Kyles, and team member, Mone’ Martin, were invited to try-out for UCA staff upon high school graduation.
