The Elba Chamber of Commerce has secured American author Chris Whaley as the guest speaker for the annual membership banquet set for Thursday evening, Sept. 21, at 6 p.m. at the National Security Conference Center in Elba.

The social time begins at 6 p.m. with dinner at approximately 6:30 p.m. Whaley will speak following dinner, and the banquet will conclude with the annual awards program.

Whaley is a Southern Baptist pastor and former professional wrestler. He competed in the ring using the name The Saint.

His novel, The Masked Saint, was turned into a movie in 2016. The Masked Saint, a biographical drama, won Best Picture at the 2015 International Christian Film Festival. It is available to watch currently on Netflix.

The film stars Brett Granstaff, Lara Jean Chorostecki, T.J. McGibbon, Diahann Carroll, Roddy Piper, and James Preston Rogers. In the plot for The Masked Saint, Chris Samuels is a former professional wrestler who retires form the ring to settle down as a small town pastor. When the pastor witnesses rampant problems in the community, he decides to moonlight as a masked vigilante fighting the injustice. While facing crises at home and at the church, the pastor must evade the police and somehow reconcile his secret, violent identity with his calling as a pastor.

Sandy Bynum, executive director of the Elba Chamber of Commerce, said the Chamber is super excited to welcome Whaley to Elba on Sept. 21st. She said this should be a wonderful evening for all who can attend.
