Chris Moseley

The Elba City School Board voted Thursday evening, Oct. 12, to name high school principal Chris Moseley as the new superintendent of the school system.

If contract details are agreed upon, Moseley is expected to take the office on November 1st.

Following the vote, each board member openly pledged to support Mr. Moseley in his position as Superintendent.  Board members indicated following the Thursday meeting that they felt confident they will finalize a contract with Moseley in plenty of time for him to assume the office on November 1st as planned.

Moseley was going into his third year as principal of Elba High School.

School Board Attorney Merrill Shirley is preparing the actual contract for Moseley and the school board to agree upon and sign. Again, board members expect the new contract to closely mirror past superintendent contracts.

Moseley is replacing Chresal Threadgill who resigned recently to accept a position with the Mobile school system. Threadgill and the school board had had agreed on a new five (5) year contract last fall that was effective on October 1st, 2016. He had been in the position since September 2013.

One of the requirements in Threadgill’s, and previous superintendents, contract, and is expected to be in Moseley’s agreement was that, “The Superintendent and his spouse and family shall reside within the Elba City School District of Elba, Alabama”. Moseley assured board members during his interview that he would move his family to Elba if selected for the position.

He presently lives in Enterprise where he was previously employed in the Enterprise school system.

Moseley was one of six finalists who interviewed for the position over the past week. He was the only local candidate interviewed.

School Board members have not indicated what their plans or for replacing Moseley as principal of the high school. The Board is required to advertise the open position for 30 days to allow potential applicants time to file applications for the position.
